Akshyay Mohanty was renowned singer in Oriya language. An award was constituted on his name in 2007 by Akshaya Mohanty Foundation to facilitate the people contributing to music. Earlier Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia, Gulzar and Manna De were the recipients of this Akshaya Samman. For the year 2010, the maestro of south Indian music Ilayaraja has been selected for the award. This award consisting a citation and Rs 1 lakh cash will be away to Ilayaraja on October 12th at a function Bhubaneshwar. This is a consecutive award for Ilayaraja whose name has just been announced as National Award winner for the Best Background Score in a Malayalam film ‘Pazhassi Raja’.
