World Prematurity Day 2016 Celebrations by Rainbow Children's Hospital

Rainbow Hospitals, the children's hospital with the largest neonatal intensive care unit beds in India, observes World Premature Day. It has assembled today at a city hotel, the largest ever Preterm(Premature) babies in India under one roof to celebrate the occasion and to raise awareness about the issues associated with preterm birth.

World prematurity Day is a global initiative involving more than 60 countries and is supported by UNICEF, WHO, March of Dimes and Save the Children. The aim is to raise among the community the issues of prematurity. The first international awareness day for preterm birth on 17 November was created by European parent organizations in 2008. It has celebrated as World Prematurity Day since 2011.
The famous people who were born Preterm are Sir Isaac Newton, Sir Winston Churchill, Mark Twain Albert Einstein.

The comprehensive health centre for Pediatrics, Rainbow Hospitals is one of the largest Neonatal Intensive Care Units and Service providers in the country. It is known for best care in modern pediatric medicine, delivered in its state of the art facilities, saved more than 3000 lives born less than 32 weeks.

Of which 1000 are less than 28 weeks. It is rare achievement, which not many can claim, informed Dr. Dinesh Kumar Chirla, Director of Newborn Intensive Care Services at Rainbow Hospitals.

There are few units in the country that match to its state of the art advanced and hi-end intensive care facilities inform Dr. Dinesh.

Mr. K.T. Rama Rao, Minister for Information and Technology, Govt of Telangana and Prof Batra, Executive Director, National Board of Examination are also invited to grace the occasion.

A premature baby is one who is born too early, before 37 weeks. These babies may have more health problems and may need to stay in the hospital longer than babies born later.

There are three sub-categories of preterm birth—extremely preterm which is less than 28 weeks; very preterm between 28 to 32 weeks and moderate to late preterm, 32 to 36.6 weeks.

Some are premature births are preventable and some are not. 5 to 18 per cent of deliveries are at high risk of prematurity.
There are many causes for premature birth: Teenage Pregnancy; Home Deliveries, Unhygienic deliveries- Multiple pregnancy, Fetal development, lifestyle factors, previous gynecological history etc and many other.
