Hyderabad, 10th November, 2019: The 10th edition of Hyderabad Triathlon was held on Sunday, with over 1200 enthusiasts participating at India’s largest open Triathlon. The event conducted by the Great Hyderabad Adventure Club (GHAC), was held at the GMC Balayogi Gachibowli Stadium and ICFAI Business School, Donthanapally.
The Hyderabad Triathlon includes triathlons and duathlons of varying levels, so as to solicit participation from kids and first-time athletes to professional/amateur athletes. A Triathlon involves three sporting disciplines of Swimming, Cycling and Running, while the Duathlon involves Cycling and Running. It is a test of strength, stamina, and endurance and all about pushing the limits of the participants, while they revel in the satisfaction of finishing the triathlon. The Iron level Triathlons and the Power/Super Duathlons facilitate the die-hard athletes of the city to push their limits and challenge their physical and mental endurance levels.
The event had over 1200 participants across all categories and drew a footfall of over 3000 spectators. The mini triathlon was targeted toward young kids of age 5 and above and consisted of 50 meters Swimming, 4 Km Cycling and 1 Km running. The Novice triathlon was targeted towards new entrants and involved 300 meters swimming, 8 km Cycling and 2 Kilometer Running.
The Professional Triathlon level categories included the ½ Iron, which involved 1.9 km swimming, 90 km cycling, 21.1 kms running. The Olympic Triathlon consisted of 1.5 km Swimming, 40 Kms cycle and 10 Km running and the Sprint Level included 20 kms of cycling, 5 kms of run and 750 meters of swimming.
In the Duathlon Categories, the Power duathlon consisted of 21.1 Km run,90 kms cycle and again 10 kms run. The Super duathlon involved 15 km run, 60 kms by bicycle and 10 kms run; the Olympic duathlon involved 10 kms run, 40 kms by bicycle and 5 km run done in a sequence.
The overall Event was managed by a passionate team of 400 volunteers from the Great Hyderabad Adventure Club. Utmost carewas taken to make the participation, safe, enriching and a wonderful experience.
Hyderabad Triathlon is the brain child of Deepam Morparia, board member of the Great Hyderabad Adventure Club, it was his vision and active mentoring over the many years that brought the Hyderabad Triathlon event to its current stage.
The Hyderabad Triathlon event contributes to the community sport and athlete development for Hyderabad. The event is also critical to promotehealth and fitness among the general populace and nurture professional triathletes who get to move on to participate in triathlons abroad and represent India at the various international triathlons across the globe.
