Hyderabad, December, 2012: For the first time Hyderabad will be witness to something so exciting and big in the motorsport world. Volvo- Auto X 2012 organized by Talwar Volvo Cars aims to create more enthusiasm and a culture for motorsports especially in racing. This breakthrough Autocross for cars, is a perfect platform to showcase and exhibit the level of skill, focus and responsibility required in Motorsports. The Andhra Pradesh Motor Sports Club (APMSC), affiliated to the Federation of Motor Sports Club of India will be closely monitoring the event and the race will be held abiding by the body's rules and regulations.

Autocross is precision-timed event which aims to provide an experience of rallying in a controlled environment. Safety — as Saket Talwar, Managing Director, Talwar Auto Pvt. ltd., mentions, is Volvo's first priority. Special care has been taken to see that the well-marked, one-kilometre long, zig-zag track laid at the GMR Grounds complies with all the safety regulations of the APMSC. Emergency services and required facilities will be present along the track. "Autocross is a skill-based event and speed or modifications in a car does not matter. It's the driving skills that matter. This event will herald the coming of a racing culture to the City and people will also get to witness this first hand. Now customers can do a lot with cars other than buying it and driving it out of the showrooms. This is one place where you can let your car breathe," informs Mr Talwar.

India has a competitive automobile industry but Talwar Volvo Cars believes that there is space for all. Therefore, this Autocross is not restricted to the luxury segment of cars but wishes to involve all segments. Participants will be divided into five categories which is based on the engine's capacity. It doesn't matter whether you've got a souped up high-end car or even a Maruti 800. All are welcome to give this a try.

As an entry-level motorsport it provides a stepping stone for drivers looking to push the limits. For young motorsport enthusiasts this is a golden chance, to experience the thrill of the race in the real rather than the virtual world, it is one of the most basic and simple forms of Motor sport. It is thrilling for the participants, effective and fast, yet safe. Damages to the vehicle is negligible. Participants can compare their skill* and timings with other competitors, which makes it simple and easy to participate.

Mr Talwar says, This Autocross, is just a Launchpad, Next year we will probably conduct three-four events during the year, culminating in a challenge at the end of the year. This event is all about fiM and plus it puts your driving skills to the test."

Talwar Cars Volvo has been actively encouraging sporting events in the City throughout the year. We have previously sponsored the Polo tournament at the Bison Club, the Volvo World Golf Challenge an annual event which has inspired and encouraged a lot of local golfers. Another event which is a particular favorite with City car enthusiasts was the Off-roader competition that was held in October. The success of which has boosted our confidence that the City is open to more such events. Details for the event
The Autocross will be flagged off at 10am, which will begin the smaller segment cars competition. The participants can also get a walk-through of the track while their vehicles are being inspected by the APMSC at 8.30 am, however no vehicles will be allowed onto the track before the event. There will be three winners in each category, winners will get a trophy, a certificate and a medal. Only one participant will be allowed per car.
While the Autocross is going on, Talwar Volvo Cars has seen to it that the children and women are also kept entertained. For the children there is a kid’s zone and for the women who are not watching the event, there will be cooking competition which will be judged by a chef from The Park.

The registration fees are nominal and the proceeds of this event will go to Heal a Child Foundation. Entry to the event is by invitation only.

The particpation categories as per the APMSC norms are as follows:

• Category 1 : Cars with an engine capacity up to 1400 cc
• Category 2: Cars with an engine capacity from 1401- 1600cc
• Category 3: Cars with an engine capacity from 1601- 2000cc
• Category 4: Cars with an engine capacity of 2001 cc and above
• Category 5: SUV class
