Moving Images 'Evening with Nina Gupta' at Radisson Blu Plaza, Hyderabad

As part of the Women’s March Celebrations Moving Images presents a week-long film festival titled Sense, Sensibility and Courage: The unforgettable women of Indian Cinema. This will feature some iconic films made by eminent filmmakers of the country spanning different time periods. Subjects such as marginalisation, bigamy, arranged marriage, old age and subsequent loneliness, and even stree shakti - women rising up to face challenges, are dealt with in the films. There are two, films made by women namely 36, Chowringhee Lane Aparna Sen’s Much Ado About Knotting (2012), a film by two first time film makers Anandana Kapur and Geetika Narang Abbasi.

These films will be screened at multiple venues like the Prasads Preview Theatre, Annapoorna International School of Film and Media (AIFSM) and St Anns College.

The first film of the festival, Suraj Ka Satvan Ghoda (directed by Shyam Benegal) , will be screened at Prasad’s Preview Theatre on March 11 at 3 pm. Well-known actor, director of television serials and one of the protagonists of Suraj Ka Saatvan Ghoda, Nina Gupta will be in conversation with Ms Padma Ramesh and interacting with the members and audience at Hotel Radisson Blue Plaza at 7 pm.

Nina Gupta has been through it all – theatre, television and cinema. This actor-director has been part of acclaimed films (commercial and art house besides international projects like Gandhi, In Custody, Cotton Mary) and television shows (Khandaan, Bharat Ek Khoj) besides directing some well-known TV soaps like Saans, Siski, Kyun Hota Hai Pyaar. Nina Gupta won the National Award for the Best Supporting Actress in the film Woh Chokri in 1993.

She has always lived life on her own terms doing daring things. As a woman she has defied societal norms and yet lived within society and made a name for herself through her work which spans theatre, television and cinema.
