Power to Empower: Bhagirat Merchant addresses YFLO Members, Hyderabad

Young FICCI Ladies organization, [YFLO] invited Mr. Bhagirat Merchant (Former Chairperson of Bombay Stock Exchange) to address YFLO and FLO members "On the basics of stock markets and the importance of investing efficiently".

Ashita Nawalgaria, Chairperson YFLO Hyderabad said that "The fundamental focus is be to empower women by developing informative curricula, which will guide them to become enhanced leaders in business and the civil society. "

Mr. Bhagirat Merchant, spoke on rudiments of Stock Markets; the Indian economy and an approach towards investing more efficiently. He enriched the audience on the concept of Teaching is Reaching' through a series of notes on "Indian Scriptures and Management Principles,"

The evening ended with a sumptuous high-team where members networked with one and another. The program was kindly supported by Parasakti Cements.

Young FICCI Ladies Organisation (YFLO) is a youth wing of FLO. FLO was established in 1983 as a division of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). Mr. Bhagirat Merchant:
Mr. Bhagirat Merchant took over as the President of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) in the year 1994-95 soon after the 1993 Bombay Blasts. He is known to be the reformist chief of India's premier bourse.

A pioneer of the specialized NBFC industry in India, Mr. Merchant was the President of India's first private sector merchant banking company where he managed about 150 IPOs. In 1981, he managed the largest IPO of that time; the Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers Co. Ltd.

He has been a guest faculty at IIM (Indore), Symbiosis Institute of Management & Research (Pune), Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (Mumbai), Penn State University, Pennsylvania, U.S. A, National Law School of India and University of Bangalore, just to name a few.

He was the first Indian Stock Broker to have been invited by World Bank to talk on the "Changing Face of Indian Capital Markets" in 1994 at Washington D.C. and also to deliver a keynote address at the International Conferences "Sub-continent Investment Forum-covering India, Pakistan, Srilanka & Bangladesh" - organised by Euro Money at London.

Mr. Merchant actively pursues the concept of Teaching is Reaching' through a series of lectures on "Indian Scriptures and Management Principles, "Ethics and Business" and have written articles on these subjects. He is regularly invited to discourse on Bhagwad Gita and Ancient Indian Scriptures by various social organisations, schools and colleges of Mumbai.
