Pride Supra Homes - India’s first Solar Powered Apartment

Supra Builders Pvt. Ltd, a start up real estate construction company, established by an IT professional gives India’s first Solar Powered Apartment.

“Pride Supra Homes”, the 400sq yards apartment is the maiden venture of the company, located in Kondapur is the India’s first of its Solarazied Apartment.

The construction of the project commenced in 2012, last flat sold this month and is fully occupied. The function of the solar powered apartment is fully examined in the last two years and now it is fully functional much to the delight of its occupants. It’s efficacy is fully proven now.

After due study and survey in six metropolitan cities and over 500 Construction companies across India, we can proudly say this is the first of its kind of a project in the country. The 12KW Solar Rooftop Installation serves primary source of electricity to 8 flats, illuminating 200 lights, 40 fans, 8 TVs and Computers, informed 30years old young entrepreneur, a software professional-cum-real estate builder, Chaitanya Rayapudi, while addressing the media at the site at Kondapur.

It is an eco-friendly model apartment and cynosure in the nearby localities. Lot of visitors make it a point to visit the apartment.

Heating, cooling and hot water for apartments consume lot of energy. Pride Supra Homes has solution for this too. It has set up a 1000 litres capacity solar water heating system. So no one uses geysers for hot water requirements in the apartment. All the 16 bathrooms in the apartment get solar powered hot water.

The importance of all this is they the flat owners are free from the worries of power cuts, which Chaitanya Rayapudi calls it as uninterrupted life-style.

And guess, what is the power bill of the flat owners! Rs 180 to 225/- per month, little over the minimum charge(i.e Rs 175/-0 minimum charge, whether you use power or not, that is what you pay, normally).

I don’t want to be a me too kind of a builder. I haven’t come in to construction, out of compulsion.

I have already an established IT Staffing company. I came into construction out of passion.

Normal is boring to me. When I conceived the project in 2012 when I was just 27 years old without much experience.

I approached many companies & free lancers into Solar Energy seeking total solar energy solutions for the apartment.

Everybody has ridiculed and discouraged me. They thought it was a foolish idea to have an apartment with its primary source of energy is Solar Power.

After lot of efforts and knocking many doors, spending nearly five months, ANU Solar of Bangalore has given me a hope. And my idea of solar powered apartments had slowly became reality, explained Chaitanya.

Does going solar expensive? Does this mean, apartment owners end up paying more money. No, certainly not. We have invested Rs 22 lakh on the whole for going fully solar. Today lights, fans, computers, TVs all work on Solar Energy produced by 52solar panels fixed up on the roof top. The Batteries needs to be charged every five years.

For which we have corpus of Rs 1 lakh each contributed by all the apartments.

On the whole, the cost for each flat to go for solar came to Rs 2.75 lakhs.

But, again that amount was discounted by not charging separately for amenities such as parking and lift, quickly added Chaitanya, and he calls parking, lift as basic necessities but not amenities. We would have added solar powered lift, but the technology was not available when we were going for construction. Now that is possible. That is why we are going for solar powered lifts, in our next venture, Supra Studio Homes, informed Chaitanya. We will not even have diesel generator in our next project, he said.

The project commenced in 2012and completed in 2014. The last apartment is just sold in this month. Unlike many, entire solar connectivity to the flats is in built in the apartment. It has grid and solar connectivity. The builder also stays in the same apartment.

Besides the solar initiative, we have used AAC Bricks.LEDs, Energy saving fans, energy efficient ACs We have used UPVC Windows with 3 track systems, Eco Friendly Doors(UPVCTri-Composite).By opting for UPVC Doors & Windows, we have brought down the wood usage in the construction by 90%, meaning, so many trees are saved from cutting. We also used less cement compared to any other constructions.


When asked “how do you define Supra Builders being different from other construction companies” he quickly replied “Our thought process is different. To make it short, We are Unconventional, Innovative and Eco-friendly. These are the three things, which make our buildings, distinctive and unmatched.

In recent years, Un-plasticized Polyvinyl Chloride or UPVC doors have become popular and are being used widely in homes. They are the most durable of the materials available, strong, tough and resilient.

It is highly unlikely UPVC will need to be changed. They don’t rot, flake, rust, fade, pools off etc. Don’t require any maintenance.

They are a stable material to resist pollution, These UPVC doors werve as good insulaters, due to which home is warmer in winter and cooler in summer.
