Hyderabad, February 2, 2014: Cancer Crusaders of CURE Foundation are organizing a world-class golf tournament - ‘Cancer Crusaders Invitation Cup – 2014’ - the third biennial edition, as a fund raiser and awareness initiative, on February 15th & 16th, 2014 at Hyderabad Golf Club. This was announced at Press conference by Tennis Ace and CURE foundation Supporter Ms. Sania Mirza; Dr. P. Vijay Anand Reddy, Founder, CURE Foundation & Director, Apollo Cancer Hospital, Hyderabad; Sania’s ex doubles’ partner Bethanie Mattek; Mr. B.L.K. Reddy, Hon. Secretary, Hyderabad Golf Association; Mr. Asadullah Pasha, Hyderabad Golf Association; Mr. Venu Vinod, Managing Director, Cybercity Builders & Developers Pvt. Ltd. and Mr. Nadir Chinoy, CEO, Inline 4 Motors Pvt Ltd.; today at Hyderabad Golf Club, Golconda.

The first two editions of the Cancer Crusaders Invitation Cup organized in 2010 and 2012, were a runaway success. Former Indian cricket skipper Kapil Dev Nikhanj; Actor Nagarjuna; Star Tennis player Sania Mirza; Former All England Champion Pullela Gopichand; Cine Actresses Richa Gangopadhyay, Priyamani, Samantha; Ms. D.K. Aruna, Ms. Katherine Dhanani, Smt. Tejdeep Kaur Menon; Ms. Shobana Kamineni, Mrs. Shilpa Reddy brought tremendous recognition to the tournament by participating along with the golf enthusiasts. This year too, around 150 Golfers are expected to participate in the tournament.

Speaking on the occasion Sania Mirza said, being associated with a noble cause like this delights me. I appreciate Cure foundation for the yeoman service it’s rendering in the crusade against this dreaded disease. Awareness helps in detecting the disease early and aids in nipping the disease in the bud stage. CURE has been creating awareness about cancer and has been treating poor kids afflicted of cancer with the funds collected, it has already treated 800 children, she added. There are two causes which are dear to my heart, anything associated with children and the other is sports, I am willing to go any distance for these two, she said. If a celeb like me can help in spreading a word on a cause like this, I am for it.

Bethanie Mattek said, this is an amazing cause and greatly appreciate the initiative.

According to Dr. Vijay Anand Reddy, through this event, we intend to raise money and spread cancer awareness in the society through extensive participation from ace golfers, outstanding sports persons, celebrity figures and opinion leaders. This will be a remarkable day as the leaders of the community set an impactful example through participation and declare support to this virtuous cause. Our objective is to create a consistent, annual, respectable charity golf tournament that will be well known in the golfer community, an event that golfers look forward to every year. It will be a fun and fulfilling day of social service.

The highlight of the tournament will be participation of Celebrities from various walks of life in the play putting competition as part of ‘Celebrity Play off’ on Sunday 16th February under flood lights at 7.00 pm on 18th holf. Some of the expected participants are Ms. Asmita Marwa, Fashion Designer; Classical Dancer; Ms. Pinky Reddy, Entrepreneur; Ms. Saina Nehwal, Badminton Player; Smt. Deepika Reddy, Kuchipudi Dancer; Ms. Mithali Raj, Captain, Indian Women’s Cricket team; Ms. Jwala Gutta, Badminton Player.

CURE Foundation started in 2003 has helped more than 800 patients till date to get the State of the art Cancer Care to the needy patients, especially Children says Dr. Reddy. He adds that Cancer Awareness Programs are always beneficial. Sports is one of the best ways to spread awareness. Decade back we used to see 70% of patients in advanced stages. Now because of frequent Cancer Awareness programs like this, we are able to see 70% of them in early stages. He said around 9 lakh new cases of cancer were detected in India in 2010 and around 14 lakh new cases in 2011.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Venu Vinod, MD, Cybercity Builders & Developers Pvt Ltd stated ‘We are privileged to be associated with an event which is being organized with a noble cause. Dr.Vijay Anand Reddy through his cure foundation has been relentlessly spreading cancer awareness and we are happy that we could add our bit to his goal’.

He also said ‘Cybercity builders has been in the real estate since 8 years and is delivering world class infrastructure. Our prime focus has been on conserving environment and promoting green scapes. Hence we are shaping a 7 acre central park in our prestigious project Rainbow Vistas@Rock Garden. For a healthy body & mind, we are coming up with Hyderabads first hilltop clubhouse and have earmarked 1 lakh sft for recreational facilities in its vicinity.

Tournament format- Stable ford

Format for the Celebrity Putting Contest

Each player is given a ball with her name written on it. Each participant has to putt the ball to a designated hole on the putting greens. All have to reach close to the hole. The last one is eliminated in each round.
Catch: Different holes for different rounds. The distance to the hole is increased for each round to make it difficult for players.

Estimated time-30-40 minutes.
