India Independence Day Celebrations by IAS, Sacramento, CA

India Day was celebrated in Sacramento at the Red Lion Hotel's convention center to commemorate India's Independence Day which falls on Aug 15th. Indian Association of Sacramento [IAS] organized this event and more than 18 local regional Indian organizations came together under one umbrella to put together the event. The theme for the event was "unity in diversity" in order to share India's cultural diversity with the local community.

India Day is the biggest event of the Sacramento Indian community and was attended by more than 3000 guests .
It is a whole day event where guests were provided a “carnival” type of atmosphere with Indian food stalls , Indian clothing and jewelry stores etc.

Congressman Dr. Ami Bera was one of guests of honor . Dr.Bera's office issued a certificate of Congressional Recognition in celebration of Independence Day 2015. India's tennis icon Vijay Amritraj delivered a motivating speech to the youth about achieving excellence in sports and handed out sports trophies. Other guests included Madhavi Sunder( Asst dean , UC Davis law school ) , Bobby Allen Singh ( Elk Grove school board member ) , Ken Cooley ( CA congressman ) and Venkatesan Ashok ( Consul General of India , San Francisco )
