Gillette 'Because You Are A Role Model' Event with VVS Laxman and Nikhil

Cricketer Dad VVS Laxman encourages men to be Role Models by displaying their inner steel values

~Tollywood star Nikhil Siddhartha was also present with his dad, his role model to encourage men in Hyderabad to display the right role model behaviour~

• 97% Dads in Hyderabad believe cricketers are role models for their sons
• 98% Dads in Hyderabad believe that their sons replicates the behavior of his favorite cricketer at home and while playing cricket
• 87% Dads in Hyderabad don't like cricketers sledging because their son is watching the game with them

Hyderabad, May 19th, 2014: Cricket being one of the most revered sports in the country, it is highly relatable to use it as an example for role model. Gillette’s consumer survey based on their initiative on Role Model Behavior called Men of Inner Steel has only further confirmed this fact.The Initiative which was kick stated in Bengaluru by Brand Ambassador Rahul Dravid and cricket veterans Anil Kumble and K. Srikkanth and later Delhi with Javagal Srinath, Ajit Wadekar and Venkatesh Prasad, moved on toChennai with an encore appearance by Venkatesh Prasad and first time appearance by his son Prithvi Prasad. This initiativeis now travelling to other cities with its next stop-over in Hyderabad.

In India, for every son, cricketers are the second role models, their dads being the first. In a recent survey commissioned by Gillette and conducted by Neilsen India across all major metros revealed that a cricketer’s behavior on the pitch can be equated to the behavior that young boys tend to sport while they are on the field. To further elaborate on the ideal values that make up inner steel and the ideals that one should inculcate not only while playing the sport but also by being a role model. Cricket veteran and Dad WS Laxmanalong with son Sarvajit Laxman and Tollywood’s rising starNikhil Siddhartha with dad Shyam Siddharthahad joined the event in support of the cause they firmly believes in.

VVS Laxman has been an inspiration for role model behavior to youth and men across the nation. His perseverance to follow through tough tests with integrity and nothing but passion and love for the sport he has been a part of has set an excellent example to trail. Leading by example, which is an undertone of the on-going Inner Steel’ initiative by Gillette, reinforces the role of the brand that promises and strives to deliver the best for 800 million men every day for over 100 years. VVS Laxman says “When I look at my son, soon to be a young man, I think about all the factors that could act as potential influencers and I wonder which habit or behavlor he will learn. 98% Dads In Hyderabad believe (hat their sons replicate the behaviour of his favourite cricketer at home and while playing cricket; this is something I can easily identify with as 1 see this in my own son. I stand with the 87% Dads of in Hyderabad that don't like cricketers sledging because their son is watching the game with them. I believe that such behaviour is very easily learned by children and it is the process of unlearning that is time consuming and tedious. Keeping this in mind, one must be mindful of their actions both on and off field. As a Dad of a young and impressionable son,I am glad Gillette has started this initiative which will make the cricketers realize the responsibility they have towards their fans as they are role models for not only my son, but also for men across the nation.”

Nikhil Siddhartha added, “My father is every bit my role model as he has imbibed in us the values of honor, justice and integrity which is what Gillette’s Men of Inner Steel campaign is all about. My father always taught us that there is no greater way than to honor your country, even at a small level, than by being true to your word and actions. Further to what WS Laxman said, Nikhil’s Dad, Shyam Siddhartha added, “I’ve always advised Nikhil that it is important to stay grounded while constantly in the spot light. One mustn’t let the glare of fame or popularity get to them at any time which could lead to unruly or un-role model like behavior. We as role models are the bearers of this torch which holds the flame of integrity and honor and is our responsibility to pass it on to the generations to come.”
