Hon. Counsel General of US Consulate in Hyderabad, Mr. Michael Mullins was the chief guest of this momentous occasion. Delivering the inaugural address, Mr. Mullins said, I am impressed with the energy and dedication of the youth delegates attending OAKMUN, and their ability to suggest solutions to various problems faced by the world. There are several issues the world is facing today, which have no credible and easy solutions. The world is currently facing the worst refugee crisis with 4mn people leaving Syria need a home, of whom 2mn are women, the future of a society is being torn apart, he said. US has been working effectively towards handling such crises, the US government has allocated $4 bn towards humanitarian aid, but there is always a need to do much more. He said, by 2020 India will have 67% of its population with youth of an average age of 27 years and needs to work towards providing access to jobs, healthcare for them. Next month we are hosting TEDx event for youth from South Asian countries, they will deliberate on the issues they face and solutions for them. He wanted the delegates at OAKMUN not to deliberate with a motive to win, he says in diplomacy the best way to win is to create a win- win situation for all. UN is for world peace and to maintain that it needs new solutions to problems. India has a sixth of the world's population, therefore India's role in UN is absolutely critical, he added.
Ms. Mohseena Hussain, MUN Advisor welcomed the participants, sharing the growth of OAKMUN and the philosophy of Oakridge. Mr. Gustav J’ Gropp’ – Principal, Oakridge Newton Campus addressed OAKMUN.
Secretary General Master Abhiram Reddy, addressed the gathering and declared the conference open. He said OAKMUN 2015 will try to create resolutions that will hopefully influence a generation of thinkers.
