Tamannaah kick-starts Cancer Crusaders Invitation Cup 2016 by Cure Foundation, Hyderabad

Hyderabad, 26th January, 2016: Cancer Crusaders of CURE Foundation are organizing a world-class golf tournament, the 4th biennial ‘Cancer Crusaders Invitation Cup’, as a fund raiser and awareness initiative, on February 6th & 7th, 2016 at Hyderabad Golf Club. This was announced at Press conference by Tollywood cine actress Ms. Tamannaah Bhatia; Dr. P. Vijay Anand Reddy, Founder, CURE Foundation & Director, Apollo Cancer Hospital, Hyderabad; Mr. N. Ramesh Reddy, Captain B.L.K. Reddy & Captain Mr. Dayakar Reddy from Hyderabad Golf Association; Mr. Venu Vinod, Managing Director, Cybercity Builders & Developers Pvt Ltd.; Mr. Neil Paterson, General Manager, Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre & HICC, Hyderabad; Mr. Suresh Reddy, M.D., Pride Honda and Mr. P. Vijay Vishal Reddy, CEO, WOWSOME; today at Hyderabad Golf Club, Golconda.


The first three editions of the Cancer Crusaders Invitation Cup organized in 2010, 2012 and 2014 were a runaway success. Former Indian cricket skipper Kapil Dev Nikhanj; Actor Nagarjuna; Star Tennis player Sania Mirza; Former All England Champion Pullela Gopichand; Cine Actresses Richa Gangopadhyay, Priyamani, Samantha; Ms. D.K. Aruna, Ms. Katherine Dhanani, Smt. Tejdeep Kaur Menon; Ms. Shobana Kamineni, Mrs. Shilpa Reddy brought tremendous recognition to the tournament by participating along with the golf enthusiasts. This year too, around 150 Golfers are expected to participate in the tournament.

Speaking on the occasion Tamannaah Bhatia said, being associated with a noble cause like this delights me. I appreciate Cure foundation for the yeoman service it’s rendering in the crusade against this dreaded disease. I am just a phone call away for for any support Cure Foundation needs. She said prevention is better than cure , if one takes up a sport which you enjoy, it helps to keep fit. Awareness helps in detecting the disease early and aids in nipping it in the bud stage. CURE has been creating awareness about cancer and has been treating poor kids afflicted of cancer with the funds collected. If a celeb like me can help in spreading a word on a cause like this, I am for it, she said.

According to Dr. Vijay Anand Reddy, through this event, we intend to raise money and spread cancer awareness in the society through extensive participation from ace golfers, outstanding sports persons, celebrity figures and opinion leaders. This will be a remarkable day as the leaders of the community set an impactful example through participation and declare support to this virtuous cause. Our objective is to create a consistent, annual, respectable charity golf tournament that will be well known in the golfer community, an event that golfers look forward to every year. It will be a fun and fulfilling day of social service. Dr Vijay Anand Reddy said, sports is the best exercise and it gives good relaxation and golf is the best sports ever. Cure foundation has treated more than 1000 patients free of cost, the sophisticated technology at Apollo Cancer Hospital gives these patients a great opportunity to conquer cancer.

The highlight of the tournament will be participation of Celebrities from various walks of life in the play putting competition as part of ‘Celebrity Golf Play off’ on Sunday 7th February evening under flood lights.

CURE Foundation started in 2003 has helped more than 800 patients till date to get the State of the art Cancer Care to the needy patients, especially Children says Dr. Reddy. He adds that Cancer Awareness Programs are always beneficial. Sports is one of the best ways to spread awareness. Decade back we used to see 70% of patients in advanced stages. Now because of frequent Cancer Awareness programs like this, we are able to see 70% of them in early stages. He said around 9 lakh new cases of cancer were detected in India in 2010 and around 14 lakh new cases in 2011.

Tournament format- Stableford
Format for the Celebrity Putting Contest
Each player is given a ball with her name written on it. Each participant has to putt the ball to a designated hole on the putting greens. All have to reach close to the hole. The last one is eliminated in each round.

Catch: Different holes for different rounds. The distance to the hole is increased for each round to make it difficult for players.

Estimated time-30-40 minutes.
