Punjabification of Bollywood is testing the audience's patience

"The Punjabification of Bollywood has significantly altered the essence of its music. While it has given us some catchy tunes and memorable hits, the trend has now spilled over into storytelling, often at the cost of originality and depth. It’s frustrating to witness stories devolve into a TikTok marathon that celebrates mediocrity," wrote The Cineprism, a movie page, sparking a debate on the musical monotony that has set in Bollywood.

Many Hindu movie buffs feel the same about Bollywood cinema. "Every second song coming from Bollywood is Punjabi, every third film is based on Punjabi origin or some reference from Punjab. It's over-saturated now. They need to understand that there are 28 other states in India," wrote a social media user.

Others say that what we are witnessing is not just Punjabification. "Actual Punjabi music and literature is one of the best in the country. Its the Canjabi music and stereotyping of Punjab tht they have brought into Bollywood," argued a Netizen, critiquing the deteriorating musical standards.

Old-timers and even 90s kids know that Bollywood has become less and less diverse. "Bollywood was known for its song and music. These days, though, creators want to cash in by having Punjabi songs in every movie so that it can be featured on instagram reels and parties. We are losing our diversity and originality," a Netizen wrote.
