Mollywood actor-director Prithviraj Sukumaran has reportedly received a notice from the Income-Tax Department. The Department has sought an explanation from him on his earnings from some of his previous projects.

Is this likely a case of vengeance by the BJP-led Centre over L2: Empuraan besmirching the party (without taking its name)? L2, Prithviraj's latest directorial, villanizes the saffron party, implicating its leaders for their alleged role in the Gujarat 2002 riots.

As per The Hindu, the actor received the IT notice in the last week of of March. "It is learnt that the notice was served on the actor in the last week of March by the IT department in Kochi," the newspaper reported.

L2 was released on March 28. If the IT notice was served before the movie's release, vengeance can be ruled out. Nobody knew about the nature of content in L2 until its release in theaters.

L2, co-starring Mohanlal, Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier and Prithviraj himself, has minted more than Rs 200 Cr (Gross) at the box office. It is an indutry hit in Malayalam but a disaster in other languages.
