Sreemukhi recently hosted the pre-release event of Sankranthiki Vasthunam. On the occasion, she happened to remark that Lord Rama and Lakshmana are fictional but Dil Raju and Shirish (the producers of the movie) are real. Sreemukhi made the remark probably inspired by the famous Agent Sai Srinivas Athreya dialogue referencing the fictional Sherlock Holmes.

Many Hindu netizens got enraged by Sreemukhi's reckless comment. They tagged her and Sri Venkateswara Creations on social media and demanded an apology. Sreemukhi has tendered an apology, saying that she is a practising Hindu who made the offensive comment by mistake.

"I described Rama and Lakshmana as fictional by mistake at a film event I hosted. I am a Hindu. I am a devotee. I greatly believe in Rama. My slip-of-tongue has offended the sentiments of many. I will be careful next time. I hope you all forgive me with a large heart. Jai Shri Ram.

In Megastar Chiranjeevi's Bholaa Shankar, Sreemukhi played an extended cameo. The TV anchor is popular in the Telugu States.
