Director defends Pawan Kalyan's flop: 'Filmmaking Has No Rules'

When Panjaa was released in 2011, it was seen as suffering from the 'second half syndrome'. Everyone was of the opinion that the film would have been a sure-shot hit had the second half been as slick, engaging and intense as the first half. After Brahmanandam's character enters the screen, the intensity goes for a holiday. Pawan Kalyan's characterization takes a beating.

In a recent interview, speaking to Galatta Telugu, director Vishnuvardhan defended his film against the criticism. He said that all his films have followed the trajectory. "All my films, including Billa, had this. The first half differed from the second half (in terms of grammar). I don't call it inconsistency. Filmmaking has no rules. It's art," the director said.

Vishnuvardhan also defended the change in the tone of Pawan Kalyan's character in Panjaa. "He is not the same in the two halves of Panjaa because he is in different settings. When I am in Chennai as a filmmaker, I behave in a certain way. When I am in Mumbai and don't want others to see me as a filmmaker, my behaviour changes," Vishnuvardhan added.
