The shockingly low openings for Kiran Abbavaram's Dilruba after the blockbuster run of KA just a few months ago has once again proved that it genres that are enjoying real stardom in Telugu cinema. Recently, Dil Raju, too, alluded to the same when he said that star power is no guarantee for success. Be it a mega film like Game Changer or a small-scale movie like Dilruba, content alone has come to matter. Content has always enjoyed its share of fame but never has it managed to overshadow star power the way it is doing since the pandemic.
In this context, what happens in the last week of March will further consolidate the above theory. Nithiin's Robinhood and MAD Square are going to clash at the box office on March 28th. Trade analysts might venture to say that MAD Square will live up to its title by earning double than what Robinhood does on Day 1. Unless the Trailer of Robinhood is going to be extraordinary, it shouldn't entertain dreams of coming anywhere close to MAD Square.
If Robinhood opens to humiliatingly low numbers and MAD Square opens to something like Rs 15 Cr (a real possibility, given Court this week opened to Rs 8 Cr on Day), Tier-2 herodom will get closer to being stripped off its aura.
