From a dream debut to a hat trick of hits. Just when everybody thought that nothing could possibly go wrong with the Telugu film industry’s golden boy, a jarring personal experience left Uday Kiran charred on the professional front too, or so it is believed. Ask him about it and Uday smiles to tell about how he has come out from them a much wiser person. On the eve of his birthday on June 26th Uday talks about his career, his fall from grace and his effort to stand tall, among others. Presenting to you the leading man of director Madan’s Gunde Jhallumanadhi, Uday Kiran…
Q: Do you play a lover boy role in this movie (Gunde Jhallumanadhi) too?
A: I don’t see any thing wrong in doing such roles again and again. The audiences identify me with the role of a lover boy and it is my responsibility to justify their expectations. Yet I would not want to be part of monotony.
Mine is a youthful role in this film. The entire story revolves around my character. Gunde Jhallumanadi has a superb script and I am glad that I made the right decision by accepting it. It is completely Madan’s film. I have absolutely enjoyed working in this lively atmosphere.
Q: How different is Madan’s film from your earlier film’s given that most of them catered to you young fan following?
A: Madan is a very special technician who adds a literary touch to his subjects. I have observed that he can handle any subject with finesses and dexterity. One can easily visualize his work.
Q: Why do you think your films like Viyyalavari Kayyalu and Lakshmi Putrudu failed?
A:Lakshmi Putrudu was a dubbed film. The audiences were disappointed for that reason when they had actually come to see my film. As for Viyyalavari Kayyalu. I think it was a good movie that just did not work. It was a good movie with a good producer (Sridhar). And I am happy that I came over my insecurity of working with a big hero like Srihari. My strength is that I am a hard worker and I stick to my guns when it comes to work. In the same way I accept my failures.
Q: The films that you have done during your low phase seem to be an act of desperation. Is it true?
A: Good question. I was in desperation. I had no guide in the industry when I entered it. When my low phase started I was in great dilemma over my career and I accepted projects that came my way. But every time I had done justice to my roles and did not compromise on any thing. I love being an actor. I have always wanted to be famous.
Q: You haven’t done any action films after Sriram. Any particular reason?
A: No. I would love to do action films. Sriram was not actually an action story. It was the story of an innocent man provoked to violence. But the thing is that I cannot do roles that are larger than life. People have accepted me as a family boy and like to see me in such roles. I like to do roles that suit my age and body language.
Q: What about EkLoveYudu?
A: The film is turning out really well. I am very confident about the film’s success. I am happy with both, producer Medikonda Murali Krishna and my director KRK.
Q: How do you think your career graph has turned out?
A: I want to create a new career graph. I know how the graph has been so far. I grew from a bacha actor to becoming a lover boy to a chocolate hero. I have always believed and still do that my day will come.
Q: What have you learned from your eight years in this industry?
A: I have seen many things. Many ups and many downs. My passion for films brought me to this industry. I was childish those days. Though I won’t use big words like maturity I can say that I am a much more stable man today.
Life itself is a big teacher. My experiences have taught me to take life as it comes. Look forward to the future, live in the present and take a glance at the past. I don’t have wounds of the past instead they taught me that change is a part of life. I am a bad actor off screen but take great amount of pride in being an actor. My day will surely come.
Q: Any resolution on your birthday?
A: Taking decisions on particular days of the year seems silly to me so I have none. I make my decisions based on circumstances and requirements. I am celebrating my birthday with the unit of Gunde Jhallumanadi.
