Her debut film saw her changing from a glamorous city dweller into a rural rustic beauty. With the success of Bhagyalakshmi Bumper Draw, lead actress Farzana caught both the audiences’ and film makers’ eye. In a chat with Ragalahari.com Farzana talks about her life so far and her life hence forth.
Q: What is the meaning of your name?
A:
Farzana means a wise person.
Q: Tells us about yourself.
A:
I am a Parsi born and brought up in Mumbai. I am a model, fitness trainer and nutrition expert and a professional choreographer. I choreographed singer Adnan Sami’s worldwide stage shows and also the title track for the film Zindaa. I am a huge sports buff especially adventure sports like paragliding, rock climbing and bungee jumping. I modeled for national brands like Hero Honda, Sansui TV and Godrej Hair Care products.
Q: How did you land up with BLBD?
A:
I came to Hyderabad for a ramp show that was published in the news paper. Director Nidhi Prasad saw my photographs in the paper and called me for the audition and a week later I was portraying the lead actress role in the film.
Q: Were your parents supportive of this move to the film industry?
A:
My parents are very broad minded and have always given me the freedom that I asked for. They have a lot of trust in me and I make sure that I do not misplace that trust.
Q: How were the experience and the response for BLBD?
A:
The experience was absolutely amazing and novel. For the first time in my life I wore a half sari and traditional village attire. The response was absolutely unbelievable and exciting. I am very happy that the audiences’ accepted me with my very first film itself.
Q: Are you comfortable with exposing, as was shown to a certain extent in the songs of BLBD?
A:
See, as per the character demands I don’t mind doing exposing a bit ,as long as it is projected aesthetically and does not come across as being vulgar. I will not accept vampishness and vulgarity.
Q: Your second film is Seema Sastry. Are you not risking getting typecast in comedy roles?
A:
I don’t think so. It is just coincidence that my first two films are comedy ones. It is up to me to accept and reject roles that can type cast me into a certain genre of films. I am conscious of such a risk and will be careful not to do so.
Q: Then would you do semi nude scenes, if aesthetically done as in art films?
A:
I think I am too raw, as an actress, to do art film kind of roles. Those films require a lot of professional maturity and I still have long way to go before I achieve that. So once I get there, I will think of it.
Q: What kind of roles are you interested in doing now?
A:
I would love to do Rani Mukerjee’s role in Black and Kajol’s in KKHH. And many of the Madhuri Dixit kind of roles. I have a penchant for doing action flicks like that of Vijayashanti’s. Any female oriented action movie and I am game for it.
Q: Did you watch any Telugu films before coming to Hyderabad?
A: Very few. That too while I would surf the channels. They were fascinating as well as loud at times, with the heroes always having larger than life portrayals. I have an inclination towards the technical side and so would always observe the technical aspects like camera angle, cinematography and editing.
Q: What are your future projects?
A: As of Seema Sastry, which is confirmed, everything else is in the script reading stage. I would want to do a couple of well made films rather than any number of insignificant ones. So although the offers are very tempting, both role and money wise, I am being careful about the scripts I chose.
Q: On an informal note, if you were given a chance to spend an entire day on a deserted island with a guy. Who would that be?
A: Micheal F. He is an amazing and famous tap dancer. I am a huge fan of his. I would love to spend a day with him just to learn tap dancing.
