Hyderabad, September 9th, 2016: Apollo Cancer Institutes, Hyderabad, announced the launch of the state-of-the-art highest precision cancer care Tomotherapy. It is the latest innovation in the high-end cancer treatment and only the second such equipment in the country. Chief Guest Shri K T Rama Rao, Minister for IT E&C, MAUD, Telangana, formally inaugurated the Tomotherapy Oncology Annexe on Friday at Apollo Cancer Institutes; Guests of Honour Shri Pullela Gopichand & Olympic Silver Medalist Ms P V Sindhu; Dr Prathap C Reddy, Chaiman, Apollo Hospitals Group; Ms Sangita Reddy, Jt. Managing Director, Apollo Hospitals Group; Shri Vishweshwar Reddy, MP, Chevella; Dr Hari Prasad, President, Apollo Hospitals Group; Dr Vijay Anand Reddy, Director, Apollo Cancer Institutes & Dr SVSS Prasad, Consultant Medical Oncologist, Apollo Cancer Institutes, graced the occasion.

The CT Scanner mounted Tomotherapy enables precise cancer treatment by tightly conforming the radiation dose delivery to the shape of the tumor, while being noninvasive and as painless as an x-ray. Its unique design helps in treating a wide range of cancers from routine to most complex and from head to toe. Cancers of the Breast, prostrate, lung, rectal, brain tumors & CRANIO-Spinal Radiotherapy can be treated with great precision and least side effects.

Speaking on the occasion Shri K T Rama Rao said, Apollo is truly a world class healthcare facility. Tomo in Tomotherapy means slice, but I believe its tomorrow’s therapy available today. It sets a new benchmark in the country for cancer care. Cancer can no more be considered as a fatality with such advance technology within our reach. Even the sports medicine facility is very strong at Apollo with many of our sports persons like Saina, Sania and several others seeking treatment here. He said Sindhu won the hearts of 132 crore Indians through her superlative performance at the Olympics, Sindhu and Sakshi saved us from blushes. Gopichand should be congratulated for running the academy which produces so many champions in badminton.

Shri Gopichand reminisced about the prize he received from the hands of Dr Prathap C Reddy at L.B. Stadium, way back in 1987 for one of the first tournaments he won. At Apollo I have always received support, any injury issues with players or even when Srikanth had meningitis, they were always a call away and extended the help, they have always been supportive to the entire sporting fraternity, he said. I hope I can live up to the expectations and produce more results, Shri Gopichand added.

Ms Sindhu said, Apollo has been doing a great job, this technology is advanced.

Speaking on the occasion Dr Prathap C. Reddy said, we are bringing the next generation cancer care within the reach of our people, in keeping with the promise of offering same level of healthcare here as anywhere in the world. Also each one of us is unique and each patient has his unique signature disease, therefore only personalised treatment will give better cure and this is where Tomotherapy will make the difference. He said we always strived to get the very best available in the world in every single field of medicine. Sometime back UK had announced that there will be no cancer deaths by 2015 in their country, this they could say because they screen every citizen for cancer and can identify and eliminate such possibility. An early check up can remove the causes of cancer and we too can conquer it. If the patient comes in the first stage we can treat and eliminate cancer in the country. If we can successfully do this here, there are several countries which will follow us and eliminate the disease, he said.

Ms Sangita Reddy said, this is a significant initiative in our quest to conquer cancer, Tomotherapy provides targeted therapy without harming the healthy tissue and can treat the most complex of the cancers, patients will recover fast too. Our single motive is to give Indians the best treatment available, she said.
