To celebrate International Women’s Day, Hyderabad Bicycling Club(HBC) organized its signature cycle ride viz., Women on Wheels (WOW),an event exclusively for the women on Saturday at the National Academy of Construction (NAC) Campus at Cyberabad. The Chief Guests Smt Sailaja Kiran, Managing Director, Margadarshi and Sri Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary - IT, Industries, E & C, Govt of Telangana, flagged off the ride. Mr D V Manohar, Chairman, Hyderabad Bicycling Club,several women stalwarts were the esteemed Guests of Honour on the occasion. Over 600 women from all walks of life participated in the colourful event.
Women on Wheels had two categories of rides viz., 10 Kms ride & 5 Kms ride, both within the Hitex Complex to ensure safe cycling for the women cyclists. GVK Group &Greenco were major sponsors of the event. HBC through this event intends to encourage more and more women to take to cycling and make cycling a part of their daily routine to lead a healthy lifestyle.
HBC & its ally SmartBike have tied up with Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd (HMR) to provide first and last mile connectivity to the HMR commuters. We have already set up Bike Stations at Miyapur Metro Station, JNTU Metro Station, KPHB Metro Station and Kukatpally Metro Station in addition to Feeder Bike Stations at Miyapur Junction, JNTU main gate and Cyber Towers to begin with and will be adding many more in the coming days. HBC & Smartbike together are in the process of creating a large cycling infrastructure by putting up 500 bike stations across the city. About 10,000 State of the Art Bicycles including e bikes would be positioned at these Bike Stations which would be issued and taken back using swipe card/smart phone technology. The project is totally ecofriendly and aimed at considerably reducing the vehicular pollution menace in Hyderabad & make Hyderabad more ecofriendly.
SmartBike Consortium won the mandate for setting up similar Public Bike Sharing System in New Delhi & now implementing the same. SmartBike now set up an Assembly Plant in Hyderabad to assemble Smartbikes.
