Ram Charan Teja flags off HBC'S 'Eco Friendly Cycle Ride' to commemorate Earth Hour Day 2014
Hyderabad Bicycling Club (HBC) along with Chirec Public School and WWF organised an 'Eco Friendly Cycle Ride' to commemorate Earth Hour day 2014 on 29th March, 2014, from Gachibowli Bike Station on Saturday, for the noble cause of "Protecting our Planet," The ride was flagged off by Mega Power Star Ram Charan Teja, the Brand Ambassador of WWF. He also joined the ride along with several prominent citizens including Ms Shobana Kamineni; Mr D.V. Manohar, Chairman, Hyderabad Bicycling Club; Ms Ratna Reddy, Managing Director, Chirec Public School; Dr Suchitra Ella, Joint Managing Director, Bharat Biotech; Mr Somesh Kumar, GHMC Commissioner and Mr NVS Reddy, MD, Hyderabad Metro Rail etc.
HBC has taken the initiative to make this day very special by hosting Eco Friendly Cycle Ride to spread awareness about the day and also more significantly to adopt Bicycle as the mode of transport and save the earth from pollution emanating from burning of non- renewable fossil fuels, says Mr D.V. Manohar. Further Mr D V Manohar mentioned that HBC is now celebrating the crossing of the unique land mark of 5000 members.
Ram Charan Teja, who was impressed with so many youngsters coming out early in the morning for the cause, said that protecting our planet is a matter of priority for all of us. These youngsters by participating in the ride in large numbers are sending a strong message of the grave urgency to save our planet and that each one of us has to contribute our bit for the cause.
HBC made special arrangements to make the rides comfortable for the riders with enroute water & cookies stations, support vehicles and ambulances. Route signage along with volunteers at intersections aided the riders to be on track. All the participants were provided with T- shirt, Apollo first aid boxes, back pack and breakfast.

HBC has grown six times in the last two years to reach the present membership strength of 5000 members. HBC's Bike Stations at Gachibowli and Necklace Road have transformed our city, resulting in more and more people taking to cycling.
HBC tied up with GHMC, APIIC, Hyderabad Metro Rail and the Traffic Police to promote "Cycle to Work" initiative in a big way in Cyberabad area to substantially reduce vehicular pollution and traffic congestion there. To make "Cycle to Work" safe as well as comfortable, HBC along with its allies is in the process of creating all the required infrastructure such as exclusive cycling tracks criss crossing Cyberabad, Bike Stations at MMTS, Metro Stations and other requisite places where geared bicycles would be available for the usage of the commuters etc.
