Until recently ‘3 Idiots’ stood as the ‘All time Blockbuster’ with its box-office collections of Rs 392 crs worldwide and Rs 202.57 crs in India and was declared the Biggest Blockbuster Ever in Hindi Cinema. But now Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padokone's ‘Chennai Express’ grossed Rs 2.55 cr in India in two weeks and out-shined ‘3 Idiots’ box-office India record. Unlike ‘3 Idiots’, which was a sensible message oriented film that also won several critical acclaims and prestigious awards including 3 National awards, ‘Chennai Express’ is a pucca mass entertainer and is considered as a kichadi of various South Indian movies like ‘Okkadu’, ‘Aparichitudu’, ‘Chandramukhi’, ‘Muthu’, etc. Yet the film went on to attract a wide range of audiences mainly for Shahrukh’s comical performance, Shahrukh-Deepika’s chemistry, colourful cinematography and particularly the songs in south Indian style. All this put together has made a Hindi film universally acceptable. Now we have to wait and see if ‘Chennai Express’ will surpass ‘3 Idiots’ in winning the awards too.
