Malayalam cinema has been on a roll. 'Premalu' and 'Bramayugam' have been two of the most critically acclaimed movies this year across India. And the third film to be praised by critics is 'Manjummel Boys', once again a Malayalam movie. A survival thriller film written and directed by Chidambaram, the film stars Soubin Shahir, Sreenath Bhasi, and Balu Varghese.
"A group of friends from an arts club in Cochin goes on a trip to Kodaikanal. Inebriated, high, and happy, they reach near Gunaa Cave (Devil's Kitchen). They decide to explore the closed-off cave by themselves," says Wikipedia, explaining the film's premise.
"After the 40th minute, the film is something else. Sends shivers down your spine," wrote film journalist Siddarth Srinivas on Twitter. "This film is a brilliant tale of survival and friendship! Beautifully coming together in its final act. Shyju Khalid with his cinematography and Sushin Shyam shine. I was in awe of the production design and how they staged the rescue mission. A solid film indeed," wrote Anmol Jamwal.
"Each character is introduced naturally, without unnecessary embellishments or artificial buildup. The first act is dedicated to laying the groundwork, highlighting the rapport among the characters, their surroundings and their anticipation for the upcoming trip," wrote Indian Express in its review.
