Can 'Kill' be deemed more violent than 'Animal'?

'Kill', the latest Bollywood film in the town, has been marketed as visceral and violent. Directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat, this July 5th release stars Lakshya, Raghav Juyal and others. Karan Johar is one of its producers.

The word in the town is that 'Kill' is India's most violent film yet. Only time will tell whether the description is a mere marketing gimmick or if it has any substance.

In recent times, Ranbir Kapoor's 'Animal' was seen as taking violence to extreme levels. Some of the scenes in the film were indeed bizarrely violent.

Violence is a function of not just gory visuals but also characterizations. In the case of 'Animal', the male lead's uncompromising attitude and his extreme love for his father made his violence look all the more dangerous. Even his warnings sounded bloody. 'Kill', upon its release in theatres this Friday, will let us know if it has a new brand of violence.
