When Mahesh Babu's big-scale movie became a medium one

'Aagadu', which hit the cinemas in 2014, was an action comedy with a rural or semi-urban backdrop. As per Sreenu Vaitla, that was not supposed to be.

"Mahesh Babu was given a different story narration. Its scale was big, and it excited him to the core. However, since the producers (Ram Achanta, Gopichand Achanta and Anil Sunkara) had faced a financial setback, they wanted 'Aagadu' to be made on a smaller scale," director Vaitla said in a recent interview, talking about what prompted to alter the story of the project.

In 2021, Vaitla said that Mahesh Babu's fans had exerted pressure on the filmmakers of the time to make an out-and-out mass film with the actor. Vaitla, who otherwise had not made such a film before, was sorta entering a new territory. He couldn't figure out how to handle 'Aagadu', especially with time constraints. The screenplay of 'Aagadu' was written by Anil Ravipudi, Upendra Madhav and Praveen Varma, besides Vaitla himself.
