Daaku Maharaaj was expected to do much better than it did in January this year. The film opened to positive reviews and word of mouth. But its less-than-optimal performance is a bit surprising.
Analyzing the movie's performance at the box office, producer S Naga Vamsi has said that competition from Sankranthiki Vasthunam did have an impact. "Venkatesh garu's movie became a blockbuster. Naturally, our movie did get affected. That said, Daaku Maharaaj did exceptional business in Balakrishna garu's stronghold territories," Naga Vamsi said.
He also acknowledged that Lucky Baskhar last year didn't realize its full potential due to its genre and the intense competition from Amaran. "Lucky Baskhar should have done way better in multiplexes. But Amaran posed competition," Naga Vamsi said.
MAD Square, which is Naga Vamsi's next movie, will hit the cinemas on March 29. If Pawan Kalyan's Hari Hara Veera Mallu comes out on March 28, then MAD Square will be postponed, the Sithara Entertainments head today said.
