Akhil Akkineni is just a few weeks away from celebrating his total absence at the box office for two straight years. For someone who is so young and yet to score a single clear-cut blockbuster, the gap almost feels like a forced sabbatical.
It was in April 2023 that Agent was released in theatres. Akhil was enthusiastic about it, thinking it would become a major hit. Speaking at the film's pre-release event, he told director Surender Reddy that he was clueless as to what he might do now that the film was completed. "I am feeling so high!" he exclaimed, wondering if he would ever get that high again. Producer Anil Sunkara watched on with a doubtful expression on his face.
Agent's release was followed by total lull. The film has failed to make it to OTT for 23 months. It is finally up for streaming, thanks to some platform daring to deal with its disastrous content. Akhil's detractors and Telugu yuvatha shall celebrate Agent's OTT arrival with endless trolls. But something more frightening is rumouredly brewing in Akhil's career: he is in talks with Puri Jagannadh.
