It has been on a roll. Following a phenomenal overseas pre-booking run that raked in over $2 million, L2: Empuraan has stormed into the Indian market by setting unprecedented records in advance ticket sales. Within the first 24 hours of its Indian advance booking opening, the film sold a staggering 625,000 tickets.

The previous highest was Prabhas' Kalki 2898 AD, which had sold 341.78K tickets.

The film's performance on BookMyShow has been particularly remarkable. During peak booking hours, the Mohanlal-Prithviraj Sukumaran movie recorded an astonishing 96,000 tickets sold per hour. This is the highest record in the history of Indian cinema.

L2: Empuraan, whose Trailer was released the other day, will head to theatres on March 27th. In a recent interview, director Prithviraj stated that the movie's budget will be assumed to be extremely high by the audience but the actual numbers are pretty modest for the lavishness on display. The costs were controlled through efficiency, he suggested.
