Hyderabad, November 23, 2012: Techies from Deloitte took a day off from their hectic schedules to share joy; love and hope by playing games, dance and have fun with children combating cancer. Tollywood star Krishnudu and Dr. Vijay Anand Reddy, Director, Apollo Cancer Hospital, joined Deloitte employees in celebrating the ‘Impact Day’ with these brave kids on Friday at Apollo Cancer Hospital, Hyderabad.
Deloitte professionals dedicate a day - ‘IMPACT DAY’ and reach out to the community to make a difference in people's lives. One set of professionals grouped under ‘Asha – a ray of hope’, celebrated the day by spreading joy, love and hope among the cancer patients at the Apollo Cancer Hospital. The employee volunteers spent the day by interacting with the children suffering from cancer and their care takers. They had lots of fun activities for kids and shared survival stories with the patient care takers.
Over the last 10 years Deloitte has given nearly 585,000 community hours and impacted around 842,000 lives. Deloitte runs projects in Hyderabad, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore with maximum of 270 projects in Hyderabad. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. P. Vijay Anand Reddy, Director, Apollo Cancer Hospital, said, the kids had a fantastic and a memorable day out with the professionals from Deloitte, momentarily forgetting all the pain and misery they undergo in fighting cancer. Each child was enthralled to its fill; the magic these volunteers spread will boost their confidence in combating the disease and overcoming it expeditiously. It’s pretty painful for any parent to digest that their loved little ones is diagnosed with the dreadful disease. But, let me assure you all that – Most Child Cancers are curable! In fact 85% of them get cured, Dr Reddy emphasized.
Children tolerate treatments like Chemo better than adults and they have excellent regeneration capabilities than adults. In them, the Bone Marrow recovers faster than adults and the surgical wounds heal rapidly, he added.
