Ten years after the release of Rani Mukerji's cop film 'Mardaani' (Hindi), in August this year, Yash Raj Films announced the third installment. On Friday, the film was formally launched by the Bollywood banner. Abhiraj Minawala, a product of the Yash Raj studio setting, will be wielding the megaphone.
Mardaani, touted to be the biggest solo female-led franchise in Hindi cinema, is back in the reckoning. Rani Mukerji, one of the senior-most female actors of Hindi cinema, said that she is thrilled that 'Mardaani 3' will commence its shoot in April 2025.
"It is always special to wear the police uniform and play a character that has only given me love. I am proud to essay the character of this feisty cop again as a tribute to all the unsung, brave, self-sacrificing cops who work tirelessly every single day to keep us safe," the lead actress said.
Describing the Mardaani franchise as an "extremely loved" one, she informed that the third part is going to be "dark, deadly and brutal".
Scripted by Aayush Gupta of 'The Railway Men' fame, the film is expected to be rich in subtext and be gut-wrenching, hard-hitting, and edgy.
The film will hit the cinemas in 2026.
