Single Trailer: Wit Died Somewhere Between Manmadhudu and Now

In the trailer of Single, Sree Vishnu's character makes his dislike for women obvious. "Women are like cockroaches. They never die; instead, they end up killing us," the protagonist analyzes with the audacity of a Jabardasth clown. Such lines became a trend with Nagarjuna's Manmadhudu. Every writer since Trivikram has failed to understand the world of difference that lies between problematic language and witty expressions emerging from the pain of a character.

Leaving aside the poor comedy quotient, who is watching love triangles these days? Romantic triangle comedies have long ceased to attract the audience. The genre itself is suffocated with cliches and silly character traits. The male lead often behaves like a bio robot who doesn't know how to behave like a grown-up man.

Sree Vishnu was over the top in Om Bheem Bush. The many get-ups in SWAG sort of papered over his less-than-balanced acting. Somehow, the trailer of Single reminds us of an actor who is incapable of nuance. Director Caarthick Raju's treatment is uninspired. The casting of Ketika Sharma and Ivana doesn't quite come across as interesting.

Produced by Vidya Koppineedi, Bhanu Pratapa and Riyaz Chowdary, the film will head to theatres on May 9th.
