Udayanidhi Stalin, the grandson of former Chief Minister Dr Karunanidhi, started his film career as producer and produced 6 films in Tamil. Later, he made his acting debut as hero through the film ‘Orukal Oru Kannadi’ opposite the beautiful heroine Hansika Motwani. The film was directed by M Rajesh with music by Harris Jayraj. Bellamkonda Suresh has bought the Telugu dubbing rights and releasing it on 31st with the title ‘Ok Ok’. On this occasion as part of film promotion, Udayanidhi Stalin shared his thoughts and experiences with the media. Here are few excerpts:
Introducing himself to the media he said, “Hello, all are aware that I’m the grandson of Karunanidhi garu. I completed my B.Com and pursueing my MBA. I produced six films in Tamil. I started my acting career with a guest role in director K S Ravi Kumar’s ‘Aadhavan’. I entered the film industry with the encouragement and support given by my family and friends. I’m very happy to note that I’m going to be introduced to the Telugu industry through a good banner. My special thanks to Bellamkonda Suresh garu with whom I’ve good association for quite long time.
‘Ok Ok’ is a wonderful love story which also includes good comedy. The film was a good hit in Tamil. Rajesh is a talented director who knows how to extract work from artists as per his requirements. The film was a big hit in Tamil only due to his hard work. Nevertheless, Hansika is a great performer. I struggled to match her level in dancing. She was very supportive although she is senior to me.
Harris Jayraj needs no introduction. His music will be a super hit to any film that he provides. In this line, he rendered excellent music for this film also. Songs have become super duper hit. ‘Paddura Mama’ is my favourite. The main assets of this film are music and re-recording. The output of ‘Ok Ok’ is great. Sunil dubbed his voice for Santhanam’s character which is going to be the highlight. Songs are visually excellent.
Nagarjuna garu is my favourite hero in Telugu and my favourite films are ‘Ala Modalaindi’, ‘100% Love’ and ‘Eega’. Similarly Sruya and Jiiva are my role models in Tamil. I’m more comfortable as a producer than as an actor. I understood the difficultities caused during acting only after doing this film, especially the romantic scenes which made me feel a little uncomfortable.
I’ve not yet signed any other film. I’m waiting for good comedy scripts. If I come across any such script with a good director, then I would self produce the film by playing the lead role. At present I’ve not thought of doing films in other languages. Surya and Jeeva are my role models.
My forthcoming projects as a producer are an untitled film under Srinu Ramaswamy’s direction. This will be launched in October. The second film which I’m planning to produce is under discussion with director Samuthirakani.
I’m not talented enough to write scripts like my grandfather. I’m presently focusing on acting only. I hope the Telugu audience will watch the film and bless me as this is my first Telugu film which is going to release in the next two days.
