Unmasking the Superstar Krishna parody in Dubai Seenu

In the 2007 action entertainer Dubai Seenu, comedian MS Narayana was seen as a parodic film star named Fire Star Solomon Raju. Not many know that director Sreenu Vaitla intended the character to be a spoof on Superstar Krishna. Vaitla made the dialogue modulation so subtle that most audiences didn't see it as a parody of Krishna.

"In the film industry, parodies don't offend the subject. The general audience might make a big deal about it and gossip, they might think the comedian might end up losing offers (for daring to spoof a big name), but Krishna garu himself in this case must have laughed and forgot about the parody," MS Narayana once said in an interview.

A few years later, Vaitla teamed up with Superstar Krishna's son, Mahesh Babu. Their film, Dookudu, was released in 2011. It became a big hit at the box office. The Solomon Raju parody remains one of the best performances by MS Narayana.
