'Unstoppable' is a full-on comedy with a coherent plot: Director Diamond Ratnababu

'Unstoppable' is heading to theatres on June 9. The comedy entertainer is directed by Diamond Ratnababu, who previously directed Mohan Babu's 'Son Of India'. Described as a madcap comedy, 'Unstoppable' co-stars VJ Sunny and Saptagiri. Producer Rajith Rao has worked with Bittiri Sathi, Shakalaka Shankar, Chammak Chandra, Nakshatra, Aqsa Khan, Pruthvi, Posani Krishna Murali, Raja Ravindra, Raghu Babu, Murali Goud, Rupa Lakshmi, and others. With music by Bheems C of 'Dhamaka' fame, the film has cinematography by Venu Muralidhar. The boisterous comedy has lyrics written by Kasarla Shyam. SB Uddhav has edited it.

As a writer, I have made a mark through comedies like 'Seema Shastri'. As a director, I started out by experimenting. But my approach backfired badly. I now want to make at least one comedy film each year. Comedies are my forte. If I want to experiment, I will opt for the OTT route.

Comedies are not an easy deal. It's action movies that are relatively less difficult, especially if you find the right producer who can invest in big-scale action scenes. Comedies are the big deal, as the works of Jandhyala, EVV, and other stalwarts show. As a director, I have made up my mind to churn out comedies involving star comedians like Posani Krishna Murali. 'Unstoppable' is an effort in that direction.

'Unstoppable' is packed with comedians because there is a new character intro every ten minutes. They are going to tickle your funny bone. This is the kind of comedy that you will enjoy watching with your family. I was feeling bad that Brahmanandam garu didn't act in the movie. The void was filled when he graced the recent trailer launch event.

Saptagiri is among the biggest highlights of 'Unstoppable'. He has ably shouldered the film. You will love his scenes with different artists. This is not a gags-filled comedy like 'Jabardasth', the TV show. There is a coherent plot in it. The pre-climax phase is where the motives of the different characters become clear in 'Unstoppable'. Nowadays, comedies are compared with 'Jabardasth'. I took enough care not to make the flavour of the comedy in 'Unstoppable' feel like a rip-off of the TV show.

Before venturing into movies, I worked in the media sector. I am eagerly waiting to watch 'Unstoppable' with film reviewers first day, first show. I have always wanted to become the captain of the ship. A director has a complete grip on the film. I enjoy that responsibility.

Comedies come with no expiry date. I want to make timeless comedies. I have always been inspired by Singeetham Srinivasa Rao garu. I want to keep making films till old age. As Puri Jagannadh garu says, we are cinema people and cinema is the only thing that we know. If cinema is banned overnight, I will be the first one to kill myself!

Technicians are the main heroes of this film. The songs have already clicked with the audience. Kasarla Shyam's lyrics are impressing the audience. The editor worked day in and day out to condense the film into a 2-hour outing. In some scenes, there are as many as 15 artists. The costume designer took enough care to make sure no colour is repeated.

'Unstoppable' is a small-budget film. It was challenging to finish the shoot within a stipulated timeframe. The scenes were planned well ahead of the shoot. That way, we could complete the shots as and when artists were available on set. Some artists were tested to the core. Everyone was made to work without compromising on deadlines.

Balakrishna's outlook as evidenced by the Aha show 'Unstoppable' inspired me. That's why I chose the title for my film. Incidentally, the film is also hitting the cinemas a day ahead of his birthday. The story takes off and comes to a conclusion just like that. That's why the title is so apt. I have shared my phone number openly, asking people to call me up and complain if they find the comedy in the film uninspiring!

Our film is being released at a time when people will be under stress ahead of the start of the new academic year.

More and more writers should become directors. In Kollywood, the culture has existed for long.

I don't want to lie about my next film. The truth is that your fate changes every Friday in the film industry. You have to hit the bull's eye. Otherwise, you will have to start from scratch. My next film will depend on the fate of 'Unstoppable'. I urge the media to give genuine reviews.
