Rakesh Roshan, the producer-director, has had the wish to mount the fourth edition of Krrish, the superhero action thriller franchise. Long before sequels and franchises became a fashion in India, the Krrish series made a good start in Bollywood in the 2000s. How come Krrish 4 hasn't been commissioned yet in the age of sequels?
In a recent interview, Rakesh Roshan suggested that he can't ensure adequate funding for a big-scale film of that sort. His comments have sparked the speculation that he unwittingly acknowledged that his son, Hrithik Roshan, can't afford to act in mega-budget movies due to his dwindling stamina in the market.
For that matter, the going has been tough for most big movies in Hindi. In recent times, Bollywood has burnt its hands by making a few spectacle movies. The planned Brahmastra trilogy remains a pipedream after the first part didn't make profits. Bollywood is now counting on Ranbir Kapoor's Ramayan duology. If this one becomes successful, one or two franchise movies might get a fillip.
