'Silk Smitha - Queen of the South': Biopic lands a dumb video

'Silk Smitha - Queen of the South' is the title of Silk Smitha's allegedly authentic biopic. Chandrika Ravi, who is the host of a top-tier radio show in the US, is playing the lead role. She is an Australian actress of Indian origin.

The announcement video is cliched and dumb. It shows Silk Smitha being leered at by ogling, desirous men as she walks out of her luxurious car to feed animals. While she walks on a street, a desperate male fan seeking her attention accosts her. At first, she avoids him playfully but gives in with a smile after he bares his chest by unbuttoning his shirt.

The whole idea behind the video seems to be to present a sexualized image of Smitha, born Vijayalakshmi. This is quite an immature way of portraying an actress. Just because she was a sexy siren on screen, it doesn't mean her biopic announcement video must strip her of her personality.

Silk Smitha acted in 450 movies. Post her death, many theories were floated about her sudden demise.
