On Tuesday, the Delhi government announced the extreme step of totally shutting down cinema halls, multiplexes, malls, gyms and spas, among others, in Delhi. With this, the Hindi film industry has been sent into a tizzy. Ranveer Singh's '83' has been affected adversely. And Shahid Kapoor's 'Jersey' has been postponed from December 31 to a future date.
What about the pride of Telugu cinema, namely, 'RRR' and 'Radhe Shyam'? Many Netizens are wondering if the pan-India films are going to be released on January 7 and 14, respectively. Delhi is a prime market for pan-India films. With it gone and with Maharashtra having a 50% occupancy norm implemented, the Rajamouli directorial and the Prabhas-starrer are staring at an uncertain future, Netizens are saying.
Some Netizens are hoping against hope. They are saying that the night curfews, lockdowns and occupancy limits will be lifted by the first week of January after the New Year celebrations are over. This is highly unlikely to happen.
Meanwhile, the Multiplex Association of India has urged Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal to lift the lockdown in the interest of the financial health of the exhibition sector.
