Siddhu Jonnalagadda's previous box-office release, Tillu Square, was a huge hit. He allegedly charged Rs 10 Cr as remuneration for Jack: Konchem Crack, only to see the movie open to a lukewarm response all over.
The online chatter is that Siddhu shouldn't have taken on a spy comedy thriller after the failure of Akhil Akkineni's Agent and Nikhil Siddhartha's SPY. But then, those had no comic treatment. Siddhu, otherwise a clever actor, must have counted on his ability to perk up the appeal of the overwrought spy thriller genre. Casting two happening comedians, and focusing on the plot-turns could have stopped Jack from being a complete washout.
While Jack is heading for a disaster, its fate doesn't prove or disprove anything substantive about Siddhu's career. In all likelihood, he will make a thorough comeback with Badass and Kohinoor. Tillu Cube will remain his biggest selling point in the near future. At this point, Telusu Kada doesn't seem to be Siddhu's hope. There are some genres and subjects that have ceased to attract openings in theatres.
