Can Rana Daggubati score a hit with this historical courtroom drama?

Rana Daggubati has announced that Suresh Productions will be bringing out the Telugu-dubbed version of an Akshay Kumar-starrer. The film is Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh. Scheduled to be released in theatres on April 18, the historical courtroom drama film is directed by Karan Singh Tyagi

Rana has joined hands with Dharma Productions to present the Telugu version. This is an interesting decision at a time when big producers are not losing the opportunity to dub movies that have potential. The success rate has been largely mixed, though.

Just recently, Dil Raju failed to make profits on Mohanlal's L2: Empuraan. The film was a dud in Telugu. Asian Suresh Entertainments and Mythri Movie Makers have released different dubbed movies from Tamil. Most of them failed to register even half-decent openings. Geetha Arts claims to have made profits on Chhaava, the Vicky Kaushal-Rashmika Mandanna movie.

Coming to Kesari Chapter 2, the film is based on a book named The Case That Shook The Empire, written by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat. R Madhavan and Ananya Panday of Liger fame feature in important roles in it. Akshay Kumar has no box office pull in Telugu. SRK's Jawan and Ranbir Kapoor's Animal were blockbusters in Telugu, but no Akshay movie has ever come anywhere close.
