Sunny Deol's Jaat has been going strong at the box office. On Sunday, its collections were exceptional in B and C centres in the Hindi belt.
The action entertainer could well be a watershed moment. Jaat is essentially a Telugu talent-driven film. Mythri Movie Makers' Y Ravi Shankar and Naveen Yerneni are Telugus. Gopichand Malineni is a Telugu filmmaker. Thaman is a Tollywood composer.
The success must boost the confidence of the production house to invest more in crossover projects (Telugu directors and Hindi film heroes). People Media Factory has co-produced Jaat. Since producer TG Vishwa Prasad has been trying hard to break into other industries, Jaat's success comes as a booster shot.
Mythri Movie Makers' ties with Bollywood will get stronger after this. The banner has already produced Ajith's Good Bad Ugly recently with T-Series in tandem. Last year, Mythri's Pushpa 2: The Rule became a rampage hit, benefiting AA Films' Anil Thadani (the Hindi version's distributor).
In the coming years, Mythri will rope in medium-range Telugu directors and have them make action entertainers with Bollywood superstars like Salman Khan. That's a given.
