'IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack', the crime thriller drama, is currently streaming on Netflix. It has been in the thick of controversy for "whitewashing" the role of Pakistan's ISI and the Taliban. The Modi government has summoned the Content Head of Netflix to seek an explanation. After giving a stern warning to the streaming giant, the government extracted a promise.
As per a news agency report, Netflix has provided an "assurance to conduct a content review" of the web series. The OTT platform also "guaranteed that all future content on their platform will be sensitive to and in accordance with the nation's sentiments".
The development is important in light of OTT platforms having a field day because they evade traditional CBFC rules. Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, being non-Indian streamers, have tried to present controversial content over the years.
'IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack' is directed by Anubhav Sinha. Netflix is said to have registered good numbers in recent days owing to the online controversy.
