In an era where remixes and reinterpretations dominate the music industry, Devi Sri Prasad is standing firm on the value of originality. In a recent interview, he passionately defended his creative process, stating, "Copying someone’s work is not a necessity, it’s a luxury."
He added that he never complies with his directors who insist on copying some or the other tune. He wants his albums to be wholly original. "I have also never created a remix of any song," he added.
This is not the first time that Devi Sri Prasad has rallied against filmmakers seeking copycat tunes. DSP's remarks are believed to be a cryptic dig at SS Thaman, a composer who goes for heavily rehashed tunes and even background scores. But Thaman is hardly the only one who has done it. Even Mani Sharma did resort to a few copycat tunes in his heyday. In our times, Anirudh Ravichander resorts to heavy sampling that sometimes spills over into the copycat zone.
