Here is our review of 'Sehari', a film that hit the screens this Friday.

Story

Varun (Harsh Kanumilli) is about to get married to Alia. While making pre-wedding arrangements in company with Alia's sister Amulya (Simran Choudhary), Varun realizes that he never had any feelings for Alia. He instead starts liking Amulya, who is a self-made fashion designer. The consequences of this quirk of fate are narrated in a light-hearted manner.

Performances

Harsh is a newcomer who has also written the film's story, screenplay, and dialogues. He is Naga Chaitanya Lite and repeats a set of expressions again and again. Even in the climax, he behaves as though he is incapable of showing genuine sadness. Simran Choudhary of 'Ee Nagaraniki Emaindi' fame is much better. Koti, who plays the hero's father, is reduced to a couple of expressions.

Abhinav Gomatam, the comedian, gets to play a full-fledged role. He speaks way too much at times. But his performance is a bright spot. The rest of the artists are too insignificant.

Technical aspects

Prashanth R Vihari's music makes the film feel like a medium-budgeted affair. The composer deserves to be credited with taking the film to the next level. Suresh Sarangam's cinematography is average. Ravi Teja Girijala's editing is coherent.

Analysis

This week alone, two rom-coms where the leading man is a confused soul have arrived. 'Malli Modalaindi' (streaming on ZEE5) has Sumanth as a divorced man who is terribly confused after divorce. 'Sehari', the theatrical release, has Harsh as a 24-year-old bachelor who has failed in love and decides to get married within a month for the sake of it.

A problem with 'Sehari' is that its central male character is hardly ever serious. Even when he falls in love with Amulya, the sister of his bride-to-be, he seems to be doing it for fun. Will he get depressed if he fails in love once again? We get a hint of how his life might be if he marries Alia but not what might happen if he doesn't manage to win over Amulya.

For that matter, Amulya doesn't look like someone who needs to be won over. She falls in love with Varun so very easily. You have to suspend your disbelief while watching movies like this one.

The comedy involving Abhinav Gomatam and the hero is the film's only plus besides the songs. The comedian is more qualified to woo Amulya than the male lead; that's how superficial the male protagonist's character is.

The climax is totally convenient and one feels sorry for the writing department. It's a rehash and there is nothing original in it.

Closing Remarks

'Sehari' is an absurdly written and immaturely executed rom-com.
