Game Changer: Rs 92 Cr on Songs, But Where's the Magic?

The buzz is that Rs 92 Cr was spent on the five songs in Game Changer. If the industry talk is to be believed, 'Naa Naa Hyraanaa' alone cost Rs 17 Cr, while another Rs 13 Cr was spent on 'Jaragandi'.

Recent pan-Indian movies such as Pushpa 2, Devara, and Kalki 2898 AD were not preceded by this kind of talk about how much their songs had cost the makers. In the case of these films, the costs of sets to film crucial segments were highlighted. Game Changer is not a period drama or a futuristic film. It's set in the contemporary era. Probably, its sets are not grand. Which is why the lavishness of the songs is being bandied about. Also, Shankar has always been known for mounting lavish songs.

The fact of the matter is that, when the lavishness of Shankar's songs was talked about until Robot (Enthiran in Tamil), the hype stemmed from the great tunes of those songs. The richness used to be a value-add. In the case of Game Changer, the music might be good at best but not great by any stretch of imagination.
