Mahesh Babu's Nenokkadine could have been Sukumar's last movie

1: Nenokkadine was released in theatres in January 2014. The film received a backlash from the domestic audience despite Mahesh Babu's superstardom. However, it did well in the US, thanks to the hero's stardom and the audience's taste for high-concept movies.

Speaking at the recent Game Changer event in Dallas, director Sukumar acknowledged the love and support showered on the film by the US-based Telugu audience. He added that had it not been for the collections the movie made in the US, his career might have died with its box office failure.

The film was released on a mammoth scale domestically and in the US. Despite high expectations, it ran into trouble because of a somewhat muddled screenplay. The audience rejected it in favour of Yevadu, which the discerning audience deemed as formulaic and illogical.

Sukumar made a strong comeback with Ram Charan's Rangasthalam four years later (his Nannaku Prematho was average). The Pushpa films have made him the second biggest Telugu director.
