Sudheer Babu started to be called 'Nava Dhalapathy' from 'Harom Hara' onwards. The sobriquet has invited ridicule, particularly after the film flopped at the box office a few months ago.
Since 'Harom Hara' sank without a trace, will Sudheer Babu abandon the sobriquet? Does he think he overdid it by allowing such a bombastic title as a prefix before his name?
If his defence in a recent interview is anything to go by, Sudheer Babu feels 'Nava Dhalapathy' is something he very much deserves. He reasons that he has audience acceptability behind him, if not one-billion or two-billion grossers.
The reasoning is strange. You must call yourself a Nava Dhalapathy, only if you are a mass hero. You will be called a mass hero only if your film grosses big. Sudheer Babu hasn't had a fascinating grosser throughout his career. Post pandemic, his career has only slided back further.
