In the trailer of 'Valasa', Manoj Nandam's character says, 'Oopiri aadatledu'. This moment is clearly inspired by the 'I can't breathe' scene in the last moments of George Floyd's life. Floyd's death in the hands of cops triggered nation-wide protests in the US this year.
'Gangaputrulu' and 'Sonthavuru' fame filmmaker Sunil Kumar Reddy's 'Valasa' is set in the same year, although the context is entirely different. Coming with the caption 'A Nation on Roads', the film is about how migrants take to roads to reach their native villages after the announcement of the lockdown in March.
Also starring Vinay Mahadev, Teju Anupoju, Gowri, Tulasi Ram, Manisha, Tanisha, FM Babai, Samudram Venkatesh, Nalla Sreenu, Mallika, Chinnari, and others, the film has music by Praveen Immadi. The cinematography is by Naresh Kumar Madiki. Sunil Kumar Reddy has also penned its story, screenplay and dialogues.
It will head to theatres on January 1.
