'Matka' is the title of Varun Tej's 14th movie, to be released in 2024 in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam. Directed by Karuna Kumar of 'Palasa 1978' fame, the film is produced by Mohan Cherukuri (CVM) and Dr Vijender Reddy Teegala of Vyra Entertainments.
As is known, the film's story unfolds over a period of 24 years from 1958 to 1982. A mega-scale set recreating the Vizag of the 1960s has already been under construction. It has now emerged that the film is based on the life of the Makta King Ratan Khatri. While the inspiration is from Khatri's life, the story is fictional. Many incidents in the film are going to be poignant. There is also a rumour that the climax is going to be poignant with a lead up to the second part.
Karuna Kumar will reach the next level of his career if 'Matka' becomes a hit in Telugu and Hindi. After 'Operation Valentine', Varun Tej might find 'Matka' the most important outing.
