Failure of Game Changer, Kanguva, Vettaiyan, Indian 2 a wake-up call

Big-scale projects like Game Changer, Kanguva, Vettaiyan and Indian 2 have flopped miserably in recent months. The quantum of losses incurred by them is not known. Estimates will always be contested. Only those in the know will be able to accurately tell you how many hundreds of crores the four films have lost and who exactly (producers, distributors or both) had to bear the losses. If veteran Kollywood distributor Tirupur Subramaniam is to be believed, Vettaiyan was a mega loss venture. Suriya's Kanguva, it goes without saying, tanked at the box office. The budget of Game Changer is disputed and therefore, nothing much can be assessed at this point in time.

A common factor among the four disasters is that they all are from Tamil directors. Although Game Changer is led by a Telugu superstar, its outdated narration and pathetic execution is entirely because of a Tamil filmmaker.

The serial setbacks must have put a question mark on the ability of producers and distributors to make multi-billion pan-Indian movies in the near future. Lyca Productions and Studio Green, especially, have burnt their hands. Indian 3 flopping will make the matters worse for Lyca Productions. Sri Venkateswara Creations' Dil Raju will make big films in Tamil in collaboration with Aditya Ram Movies. But he will be circumspect after the failure of Game Changer.
